This was published in December 2004. This report presents 35 indicators of the social wellbeing of children and young people in New Zealand. The indicators capture different aspects of the 10 selected social outcome domains, which in turn represent key dimensions of social wellbeing.

An indicator report aims to focus on a few carefully selected normative measures. Each measure captures a unique aspect of a domain and provides a sound basis for monitoring change over time in the situation of the population of interest.

Demographic characteristics of the New Zealand population under 25 years of age are presented in the first section of this report. This is followed by the indicators, while a summary table of key data completes the report. The indicators in this report have been selected against a set of criteria that includes relevance and statistical soundness.
