This report reflects the information and data currently available on disabled people. The partners in the monitoring mechanism agreed to focus on certain aspects of the Disability Convention rights for this first year of monitoring, and to set indicators and measures of progress (given the available data). As there are significant gaps in data on disability rights, there are significant gaps in this report. These relate, for example, to disabled children’s experiences in schools and the care system, disabled people’s disproportionate representation amongst those living in poverty and hardship in New Zealand, and disabled women’s experiences of violence and abuse
