Health and Physical Education in the New Zealand Curriculum is one of seven curriculum statements covering the essential learning areas of the New Zealand curriculum. In health and physical education, students develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will help them to look after themselves and others.
ERO evaluated the quality of teaching of health and physical education at Year 4 and Year 8 in during Term 3, 2006 and found much good practice in schools. This report will help schools review their own health and physical education programmes by providing examples of how three schools teach health and physical education.
The findings of the overall evaluation are set out in The Quality of Teaching for Years 4 and 8: Health and Physical Education.
