The Ministry of Justice is evaluating the implementation and impact of the reforms to the legal aid system that have been progressively implemented since 2009. The evaluation has been designed to better understand and provide regular feedback about implementation of the reforms, as well as monitoring achievement of the intended outcomes.

Overall, the results of the public perceptions survey appear to reflect a public climate receptive to reform of the legal aid system in order to improve value and better target legal aid towards those who really need it.The results of the legal aid providers’ survey reflect high levels of disagreement with the reforms and dissatisfaction with the way they have been implemented to date.
