To Work or not to work? Findings from a survey of 65 year old New Zealanders
Many people reconsider workforce participation about the age of 65 years. This report presents nationally representative information on motivations, barriers and enablers for working. What are the main reasons that some people continue to work and some stop or reduce the hours they work? What do they say might keep them working longer? What are the main things that could affect this decision? These findings come from a survey of about 1700 people aged 65 years in mid-2008.

Purpose
The research aimed to provide information on what motivates older people to continue in paid work or retire from it, the barriers they face in the labour market, and the supports and services needed by them to continue in work.
